Stretch film testing - the next level

The FPT-evo is an evolution of the successful FPT-750. The FPT-evo combines the measuring capabilities of the FPT-750 with
improved efficiency and ergonomics. This results in the most versatile and
reliable stretch film test stand in the market.

The FPT-evo is packed with additional sensors
to capture every angle of stretch film quality control and development.
Examples of these extra sensors are:

  • Cutting edge vision-system able to track gels, holes and edge damage
  • Decibel meter for unwind noise
  • Cross stiffness test unit
  • Roll length sensor
  • Temperature and humidity sensor


The FPT-evo only comes as a full option system - in contrast with the FPT-750. This approach is called "ready for the future". We believe that all those additional sensors are required to develop tomorrow's film. Next to that the frame of the machine offers space for future needs.


Shared DNA

The FPT-evo shares its DNA with the FPT-750. The machine has the same reliable driveline as the FPT-750. It features the same industry relevant tests. It is perfectly possible to operate an FPT-750 and FPT-evo side by side. This due to the common software architecture and high compatibility of spare parts.

The FPT-evo simply takes the possibility of the FPT-750 to the next step. The following successful concepts have been re-used on the FPT-evo:

Vision+ system

The Vision+ system is a highly advanced vision system which allows the active tracking of the following defects:

  • Gels
  • Holes
  • Edge damage


The powerful software will track the dimensions, position and patterns in which the defects occur. The vision+ system is very well suited to develop tomorrow's PCR film. It will help to answer important questions such as:

  • Which filtration technology is the best?
  • Should the screens be changed?
  • What is the critical gel size for a certain application?
  • Why is the film failing?

Difficulties to test ultra-thin film? The FPT-evo makes the life of the operator a lot easier. Activate the 'easy-threading' function to thread the machine in an easy and convenient way. The FPT-evo senses that the operator is pulling on the film and will give a hand by slowly spinning the motors. The unique algorithm will stop this motion as soon as the operator stops pulling on the film. The safe speed monitoring ensures the safety of the operator at all time. This new feature significantly reduces the chances for the film to tear during the threading process. Next to that it will reduce the effort of the operator and hence increase the operating efficiency.

Servo technology²

The servo technology was introduced on the FPT-750. Many customers liked the fact that they could simulate the changing speeds such as seen on real wrappers. Or the fact that the puncture speed can be set. The servo technology² takes this even further by increasing the maximum speed of the machine. The FPT-evo driveline can go up to line speeds of 8m/s or 1570ft/min.

Cross stiffness test

The FPT-evo features a fully automatic cross stiffness test. It allows the operator to measure the stress-strain curve of the film in the transverse direction while the film is kept in a certain condition of stretch in the machine direction. This bi-axial test is interesting to investigate the "splitiness" of stiff cast films.

Multi-core clamp unit²

The new 'multi-core clamp unit² ' offers improved efficiency. The top and bottom clamp half move with a push on a button. This allows for an automatic changeover between different film heights and different core diameters (2 inch and 3 inch). Next to that it ensures that the film is always running in the center of the machine.


Industry 4.0

The FPT-evo is fully compatible with our web-based quality management system ESTELLE. Quickly determine whether a product is in specification? Trending measurement data over a longer time? Quickly compare results? It can all be done in a matter of seconds on any device with a web browser.

The FPT-evo and ESTELLE system have full connectivity with different brands of extrusion lines.

Test programs


The unwinding, retraction, peel off and stretching force is measured as a function of the front stretch.

The pre-stretch is increased to breaking point in predefined steps.

The test speed is constant and can be programmed between 0 and 8000 mm/s.


A certain number of meters are brought to a predetermined pre-stretch. All this happens at a constant speed.

The forces in each section are recorded. Statistical values of the following parameters can thus be recorded: unwind, reset, peel off and stretch force. Unwinding noise, roll length, defects,... are recorded as well.

The speed of this test is adjustable between 0 and 8000mms

Wrapper test

In this test, the machine will increase the pre-stretch continuously. The unwind, retraction, peel off and stretching forces are logged.

During this test, the machine uses a speed profile similar to the speed profile of a winder. Rotational speeds up to 80 rpm can be simulated.

The response delay of the winder can also be set.

Wrapper consistency

During the "wrapper consistency test," a certain number of meters are pre-stretched to a predetermined pre-stretch.

The film is brought to this stretch at a varying speed. This speed profile corresponds to the speed profile on a strethc wrapper.

The reaction time of the stretch wrapper as well as the response delay can be set. This makes it possible to simulate real-life situations


The stretch film is pre-stretched and brought to a certain tension. Next, the foil is clamped by a canvas. Finally, the foil is perforated by a probe.

Three different probes are supplied as standard: puncture, dart and tear resistance.

The pre-stretch, tension and perforation speed can be programmed.

The software calculates the maximum force, travel of the probe (from first contact to break) and energy absorption.


The stretch film is pre-stretched and brought to a certain tension. Then the film line is stopped.

The change of forces in each segment is logged as a function of time.


The stretch film is wrapped around an ellipse in a controlled manner. The stretch and tension at which this takes place are adjustable.

A driven contract roller pushes away the air between the layers of film. One layer of film is then pulled away from the underlying layer.

The software calculates the maximum and median value of the force.
