ESTL stands for Engineering & Solutions for Transport & Logistics. Quite a mouthful, but a name that immediately covers the entire load (every pun intended).
In a nutshell, ESTL is a logistics consultancy. We offer tailor-made advice and solutions to customers from the automotive, logistics and transport packaging industries, enabling them to ensure safe transport.
In 2007, a new law on the safe transport of goods by road came into force in Belgium. KAHO (Institute for the Education of Engineers), Febetra (Belgian Federation of Transporters and Logistics Service Providers), OTM (Federation of Shippers) and the Federal Police started an investigation to apply the law as efficiently as possible.
The research focused on transport packaging and the use of suitable vehicles. Soon some big companies took the results into account, such as ExxonMobil, Dow, Procter and Gamble, Wienenberger, Quick Step, Borealis...
The new legislation on safe transport gives great responsibility to packers of goods. The goods must always be securely packed for transport. There are various methods for testing whether a transport package is actually satisfactory. The so-called "acceleration test" is the most relevant.
When the details of the test were finalised, all parties involved (packers, transporters and police) agreed to use it as a reference to check the "dimensional stability" of a cargo unit.
The research project was completed in September 2009. Jelle Dendauw and Kristof Baeyens started ESTL NV as a spin-off of KAHO to offer the acceleration test to the shipping industry.
We have followed the principles of ISO 9001 and ISO 17025 from the very beginning.
We also invest in extensive measuring and recording equipment. Both for vehicle tests and packaging tests, we develop our own special equipment in-house. Naturally, all purchased and self-built equipment is calibrated at regular intervals.
The ISO 17025 accreditation confirms our commitment to quality. The scope of our ISO 17025 accreditation can be viewed here.
ESTL offers directly applicable solutions. To do this, we work on a neutral basis with suppliers of vehicle components, packaging materials and packaging machines.
If we do not have the required testing equipment ourselves, we cooperate with the most competent specialised labs in Belgium or Europe.
ESTL also has contacts with universities and test labs in Germany, France and Italy.
